| | You only need to login to this web site if you have an item to add, update, or delete. In that case, you should have been given login credentials. Everything on this site, except for some pages reserved for PRU officers, can be read by anyone without logging in.
To login to the site, move your mouse in the area above the Welcome menu item. There is a hidden login button there. You will see your mouse pointer change shape when you mouse over the hidden login button. Click and you will get the login page.
|
|
| | If you forget your password, there is a password reminder function on the login page. Enter your username and click the Find My Password button. Your password will be emailed to the address in your user profile. If the user profile does not contain an email address (and it won't until you update it), then you will be prompted with the password reminder phrase (initially, one that the webmaster created, so it might not make any sense to you, so there's another reason to update your user profile). If your user profile contains neither an email address nor a password reminder phrase, then you will have to contact the webmaster to reset your password to some known string of characters.

| | To copy the web address of a page, it is important to remember that the main body of what you are looking at is a frame. The full page address will not appear in the browser address bar. To get the address of the page you are looking at, right click in the frame (main body usually), click on This Frame, and then click on View Frame Info. From the pop up window, you can copy the page address (URL).
Alternately, right click on the main body, click on Properties (usually at the bottom of the pop-up menu) and copy the page address (URL).

| | Calendars show upcoming events that begin in the next 120 days. Events can be added that begin later than 120 days, although they will not appear until they are at most 120 days out. If there is a need to show events that are further out, please contact the webmaster.
See the Calendars page for more information about updating the Calendar.

| | Contact the PRU's advertising representative about space on this web site, including logo and text. Through February 2008, advertising will be no charge. This includes static ads and banner ads. Static ads appear on certain pages under Sponsors & Friends menu button. Banner ads appear on at the top of certain other web pages (in general, on whatever page the vendor would like the ad to appear). The banner ads will rotate among the various vendors we have identified. To have your company advertised on the PRU web site, please contact advertising@pru.org
The PRU seeks an advertising representative to solicit paid advertising for this web site. Please contact us if you can assume that responsibility. Compensation is negotiable depending on what you offer us.

| | Each club has an organizational profile. This profile gives the reader a quick introduction to your club and helps them find your clubs's contact info and web site. The club profile appears on the Member Clubs page and the division-specific pages under it. You must update your organizational profile for other people to find your club. No one else will do it for you.
Click on the Member Clubs button in the menu. You will see the complete list of member clubs of the PRU. Make sure your club is listed under all clubs. Then click on your division (should have opened up under the Member Clubs button) and make sure your club is listed in your division. If your club is missing or if you have questions about updating your club's profile, please send an email to webmaster@pru.org.
Each club will receive a username and password (see How to Update Your User Profile below) which they are free to distribute to anyone on their club (though there is very little need to give it to more than a few people). You may state your preference for a username and password if that will help you to remember it. For now, the only thing you can update is your organizational profile.
To login to the site, move your mouse in the area above the Welcome menu item. There is a hidden login button there. You will see your mouse pointer change shape when you mouse over the hidden login button. Click and you will get the login page.
After you login, click on the Member Clubs menu button. Scroll down to your club's name or click on your club's name in the table of contents. You should see a checkmark next to your club's name (you should not see a checkmark next to any other club's name; if you do, please let us know). If you click on the check mark, you will be able to edit your club's organizational profile. If there is a plus (+) sign next to an info field, you must click the + sign to update the info, otherwise it won't stick. You will see that your club is in the category All Clubs and also whatever division you are in. Do not add any other categories.
You can upload a club logo or other image (eg, team photo or action photo; please limit the size to something like 200x200 pixels, not too big).
When you update your club profile, there is a place to enter your club's web site URL. You must have "http://" prepended to the address, otherwise the system thinks it is a page under the www.pru.org domain. Additionally, we prefer that you open the club web site in a new window, so make sure you check the box below the URL.
At the moment, the only thing this account is good for is updating the organizational profile of your club - basic contact info (one contact person only), club logo (or other graphic), main contact email address, web site address, 200-character tag line (something to catch the reader's attention; it appears in a bolder font), and a description of your club (or further contact information, however you want to format it; not sure how long this can be, but at least several hundred characters). Keep this profile up-to-date on the PRU site and anybody looking on the PRU site for your club will easily find you.

|
| | Each user account has been created by the webmaster. Each user has a user profile. Each user has been given a username and password and linked to one or more of the clubs that appear in the organizational profiles on the Member Club pages. The webmaster can change your username if you wish, but you have to update all the information in your user profile. You must update your user profile. No one else will do it for you.
To update your user profile after login, click on options button that now appears where there was a hidden login button. Click on the Edit Profile button. When you have finished editing your user profile, click on the Save button at the bottom. If you click Exit, you will Exit without saving your updates.
The user profile contains your name, email address, and contact info, which are all important for account administration. We need your name and contact info in case we have questions about account, as well as an up-to-date contact for your club. You can also enter your personal web site address (this is NOT your club's web site address), personal biography, and photograph, but these are not important for account administration.
Lastly, you can change your password and enter a password reminder phrase (which can be as cryptic as you like as long as it reminds you what your password is; it cannot be the password itself).
At present, we have no plans to display a page of user profiles for anyone to read, so this information will remain hidden from the public. It is strictly for internal PRU use.
WARNING - There is very little an unauthorized user can do the the web site (only change club profiles to which he can gain access. However, as with any username and password, you should take some care to keep it private. There is no password security strength checking performed on your password.

| | The html is generated from XSL templates for each of our (Viadesto's) info page layouts, so that the content stays completely independent from the layout and formatting. At the point where a page is requested, it is placed into the appropriate layout, and the page is rendered. No pages are stored as fixed html text files.
| |
|
|
| | We (Viadesto) have complete control over the code and how it is rendered. We can add new layouts at any point, and revise how the code is rendered.

| | The PRU does not make an overt attempt at being compliant with 508 regulations in any way. The people that maintain this web site are not versed in these regulations or web design skills. Any compliance is because of the Viadesto software driving this web site, and any non-compliance is unintentional. If anyone wants to help us in this regard, please contact webmaster@pru.org
We have the following from Viadesto technical people:
Our servers detect special accessibility browsers and redirect them to frameless, fully accessible website versions of the dynamic websites, each and every page. For example you can see a frameless version of your website here: http://www.pru.org/nfgoto
For the regulations that our client’s admin can not control, we are compliant with all Priority 1 regulations of Section 508.
There are, however, many ways that the client can make their page non-compliant, simply by adding improper content into our system. For instance, a client can add a picture to a page and fail to give it a descriptive, easily readable alternative tag. We can not control what our clients add to their empty websites, so we can only hand them a compliant tool with which to compose. Therefore, the responsibility is on our client to know the regulations and how to keep their web content fully compliant.
All Priority 2 and Priority 3 regulations that are not currently compliant (most are) have been reviewed, estimated, and quoted to clients who may wish to pay for these regulations to be addressed before our intended scheduling for development. We anticipate all issues will be addressed over the next year.

| | A specific page can be linked to using what we call "go to" links. The "go to" link consists of your domain name, the word "goto" and the page title that you are linking to. A direct link to your "About Rugby" page would be http://www.pru.org/goto/about_rugby The part of the link name after .../goto/ is the menu item text in lower case and substituting the underbar (_) for the space.
Menu items should not have special characters in their name, although they will work. But link names cannot have special characters in them, and so to preserve the one-to-one correspondence with menu items, menu items should avoid special characters (eg, "&", "+", "/", etc).

| | To print a page, right click in the main body and click the print option. Proceed as usual from the print window that opens. If you print using the toolbar at the top of your browser, you will only get the menu bar on the left. | |

|
| | The new PRU web site allows us to show pictures or graphics of any kind, particularly action and team photos, as well as banner ads. For most people, this won't be a problem at all. But, graphics downloading is sometimes slow if you have a slow internet connection (eg, dial-up or low-speed DSL).
Internet Explorer and Firefox (and probably other browsers) offer a way to turn off picture downloading. The tradeoff is that you'll get a blank placeholder in your browser display where a picture would be.
IE 6.0 - In your browser window, click on the browser "Tools" menu item (usually next to Help). Click the "Internet Options..." from the drop down menu (usually at the bottom). Click on the "Advanced" tab (usually far rightmost tab). Scroll down to the Multimedia list of options and uncheck the "Show pictures" item. Click OK to exit the window.
IE 7.0 - In your browser window, click on the browser "Tools" menu item (on the far right of the window tabs). (The rest is just like IE 6.0) Click the "Internet Options..." from the drop down menu (usually at the bottom). Click on the "Advanced" tab (usually far rightmost tab). Scroll down to the Multimedia list of options and uncheck the "Show pictures" item. Click OK to exit the window.
Firefox 2.0 - In your browser window, click on the browser "Tools" menu item (usually next to Help). (The rest is just like IE 6.0) Click the "Options..." from the drop down menu (usually at the bottom). Leave the checkmark on (if it is already on) next to "Load Images Automatically", or uncheck the box if you want to block images from all web sites. Assuming you only want to block images from www.pru.org, click on the "Exceptions" box to the right of it. Enter "www.pru.org" in the "Address of this web site" box, and then click the "Block" box. Click Close to exit the window.
Other web browsers should be similar to one of these. If someone wants to provide instructions for another web browser, we will post them here.
Note: If you have privileges to edit this web site, you do not want to turn off graphics display per the above instructions. Some of the edit windows will be very hard to read and understand (eg, you won't know where the save button is), although they do still work if you know where to click.
